MSS Ltd has over 100 years’ experience in supplying the marine and offshore industry throughout the UK and Ireland.
Working with some of the largest vessel operators around the globe delivering fresh and frozen provision stores, cabin, janitorial, engine and logistic services on time to all ports in Scotland.
Since its incorporation MSS has remained true to its core values and beliefs in the way its business is operated. MSS firmly believes that ship stores must be a trusted partnership between the company and its customers.
With an invaluable wealth of ship store experience and knowledge, MSS aims to achieve the highest standard of service to all of its customers.
That is why MSS has gained its place as one of the most recognised and trusted names in the UK marine supply industry. Managing director Mike Moss understands that no matter how large or small the customer’s requirements, the same care and professionalism must be taken every time with every order. He goes on to say that: “We understand the importance of delivering a first class supply service. That is our business, this is what we do and that is why we are the leading UK independent ship supplier.” Increasing its foothold in the Scottish sector several years ago with larger operational capacity based in Grangemouth, the new depot covers the ports of Leith, Rosyth and all terminals in the river Forth.
The River Tay with the ports of Dundee and Perth has seen significant traffic increase, and ports on the River Clyde of Glasgow and Greenock including Hunterston Coal Terminal are also served. Already present in Aberdeen, further additional investment by MSS led to a new location at the heart of the offshore industry on Commercial Quay. MSS approached Aberdeen Harbour about the site, finding it was keen to accommodate a business serving the marine and offshore industry. The move has allowed MSS to operate faster and more efficiently for its customers. North Sea operations are unlike anywhere else in the world – timing is paramount. Heading Scottish operations for MSS, Nick Moss adds: “Many of our customers arrive in the early hours of the morning and are alongside for only a few hours, we need to ensure that vessels receive stores on time to allow them to turn around and get back into the field.” Aberdeen Harbour continues to make significant investment in the harbour facilities as North Sea traffic increases to facilitate the demands of the oil industry in it. MSS is an integral part of the service industry operating in the Norwegian, Dutch and UK sectors.
An increase in warehouse size allows MSS to offer a complete land to sea global logistics service with delivery to vessel – a specialist service that regular carriers can’t always offer. With recent offshore explorations MSS has been providing regular logistics services to Shetland. The Aberdeen base allows MSS to supply all ports from Montrose up to Peterhead and Nigg Bay Terminal. Ship to ship transfers at Nigg Bay have presented the opportunity for allowing stores on board whilst in the relative shelter of the bay. More cruise vessels arriving at Invergordon have added to the level of business already done in the area. Investment at Montrose has seen Anchor Handling Tugs and Offshore Supply vessels using the port along with cargo vessels carrying fertiliser and grain. With many of the vessels arriving at the port who are already customers of MSS it is sometimes easier for them to take on stores whilst at Montrose.
With MSS able to supply at any port, it is this flexibility which suits many of the ship owners and managers. It can be very short notice that a vessel receives new orders to discharge or load at a different port and if they already have stores ordered it can mean starting the order process again at their new arrival port. This can mean the difference of a vessel being able to sail on schedule or being delayed and costing the charterers a great deal of money. MSS is completely reactive and can offer a different supply port even at short notice whether in Scotland or further down the coast into England thanks to its southern depots.
MSS sources from local suppliers and producers where possible to ensure the very best quality and freshness of its stores. Sustainable fish products have been at the forefront of supply and MSS have been using MSC certified fish products.
In these tough economic times around the globe, MSS continues to offer a cost approved service to all vessels, allowing for easier budget management whilst ensuring the quality of all stores.
